While sustainability is often discussed as a corporate requirement, the Kering Group (the powerhouse behind Gucci, Saint Laurent and Balenciaga) is executing a root-level change in the heart of India. They aren’t just sourcing organic cotton; they are participating in restorative development of a Tiger Corridor.

In the Satpura-Pench Corridor—a vital 4,200 sq. km landscape connecting two of India’s most iconic tiger reserves, a new model of ‘Nature-Positive’ luxury is taking root.
Wildlife Friendly® Fiber
Traditional industrial farming often creates dead zones that act as barriers to wildlife movement. Kering, in partnership with WWF-India and the Wildlife Friendly Enterprise Network (WFEN), is supporting farmers in their transition to regenerative practices that enrich the soil and the landscape.

How does this work?
Chemical fertilizers have been replaced with local bio-pesticides and farmers have seen their input costs drop increasing their economic resilience. Also, farmers are planting food crops alongside cotton, creating a diverse ecosystem that provides both a “buffer” for market prices and a healthier habitat.
Finally, by turning farm boundaries into safe, wildlife-friendly zones, endangered species like the Bengal tiger, leopards, and sloth bears can move securely between protected forest tracts.
The New Luxury: From Soil to Soul
This project proves that the future of luxury isn’t just about the aesthetic of a finished garment—it’s about the restorative power of its origin. India is uniquely positioned as the only place in the world where world-class fiber can be grown while protecting a tiger reserve and also empowering the local community.
Who could have ever imagined that luxury could also be measured by the biodiversity it protects. When global leaders invest in our soil, it signals a shift: India is no longer just a sourcing destination; it is the blueprint for the most advanced conservation solutions on the planet.
The Final Product: Who is Buying ‘Tiger-Friendly’ cotton?
This cotton is destined for the “Circular” and “Heritage” collections of the world’s most prestigious houses. Look for it in Gucci’s high-end basics, premium shirting, and specialized capsule collections (such as Gucci Off The Grid). These pieces are sold in flagship boutiques from Milan and Paris to Ginza and Fifth Avenue.
The buyer is the modern, high-net-worth individual who demands Moral Ownership. They aren’t just buying a T-shirt but are buying a verified piece of an interesting conservation success story. By scanning a QR code on the garment’s tag, these customers can see the exact coordinates of the farm and the measurable impact on the tiger corridor. In 2026, the “Data of Restoration” is the ultimate luxury trim.
The future is Bharat Positive. And it begins with the forest and the soil.
